Absztrakt (kivonat)

This study aims to explore the relationship between creative teaching practices and student engagement in secondary educational institutions in Kazakhstan. Based on the constructivist learning theory, this study sought to understand teachers' creative teaching practices and their impact on students' engagement. A mixed-methods approach was used in which both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. A Likert-scale survey was used, and open-ended survey results were also collected. A total of 31 early-career teachers were selected for the study. The findings revealed that teachers used creative teaching strategies, such as multimodality, project-based learning, gamification, and role-play. Teachers reported that creative teaching strategies had a positive impact on students' engagement. Project-based learning was reported to be the most effective teaching practice. However, there is also a significant difference in teachers' perception of the importance of creative teaching strategies and their ability to implement complex teaching strategies. Teachers reported that time constraints hindered their ability to implement complex teaching strategies. The findings also revealed that there is a positive relationship between creative teaching strategies and students' engagement. However, teachers reported that they were not able to implement complex teaching strategies due to time constraints. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended that more emphasis should be placed on teachers' training in creative teaching strategies. A small sample size is also a limitation of this study. Moreover, teachers' self-reported data is also a limitation of this study. Future studies should include students' reported data.
