Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis looks at why parents choose Waldorf education for their children. The topic was inspired by the many stereotypes and misunderstandings that often surround Waldorf pedagogy and Waldorf communities. The aim of the study is to give a more realistic and honest picture of Waldorf education through the opinions and experiences of parents. The thesis examines what kinds of families choose Waldorf institutions, what motivates their decisions, and how they experience this educational approach in everyday life. It also looks at family background, lifestyle, child-related factors, and parents’ satisfaction. The research is based on a questionnaire survey carried out among parents connected to Waldorf institutions. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the analysis. The results show that families choosing Waldorf education are very diverse and cannot be described as one narrow or special social group. Parents mainly choose Waldorf because of its child-centred approach, emotional security, respect for individual development, and the idea of a calmer and simpler childhood. The answers also show that parents are mostly satisfied with their choice, although they also mention some practical difficulties and challenges. The study concludes that Waldorf communities are more diverse and open than many common stereotypes suggest. Overall, the research shows that Waldorf education can provide a supportive and meaningful environment for many different children and families.
