Absztrakt (kivonat)

The aim of this thesis is to examine the electric car industry from an economic and sustainability point of view, with special regard to the global trends of the industry, the regulatory environment, and the strategies of the main players, including the United States, China, the European Union and Hungary. The thesis maps the drivers of the spread of electric vehicles, the related environmental impacts, as well as technological innovations such as charging options and battery developments. The research uses both qualitative and quantitative methods, including company interviews (with representatives of BMW and Audi), statistical analyses, impact models, costbenefit analysis, and SWOT and stakeholder analysis. The life-cycle analysis of CO₂ emissions highlights that the environmental benefits of electric cars are most pronounced when they are manufactured and operated with renewable energy and are recycled according to the principles of the circular economy. One of the main findings of the thesis is that electric mobility is not only an environmental tool, but also represents a serious economic and industrial policy opportunity, especially for Hungary, which can become a key player in the European supply chain due to its strategic position and industrial base. At the same time, long-term sustainability can only be ensured if, in addition to lithium-ion technology, new, environmentally friendly solutions such as hydrogen fuel cells or solid-state batteries appear.
