Absztrakt (kivonat)
In my paper, I am focusing on the intercultural factors and characteristics that affect organizations on a global level by implementing cultural frameworks, dimensions, and models. I chose this topic since I experienced intercultural differences during the last few years as I participated in an exchange program for my studies and, upon return, started working at a global corporation. In my thesis, I want to shed light on cultural differences that affect coexistence and cooperation inside an organization. Furthermore, I want to find out how employees of a big company feel about diversity and inclusion in their work environment. In the first part of my thesis, I defined what culture means on a national level for all common people. Moreover, I have analysed cultural models that represent layers and levels of culture, which help to understand traditions, beliefs, and values. I have researched how stereotyping is harmful and why people should be more aware of false characterizations. In the following chapters of the thesis, I analyse corporate culture with the help of the Competing Values Frameworks and its main cultural types. I will explain the organizational culture structures with examples that I have personally experienced during my internship as well. During the third part of the paper, I researched different intercultural communication styles and dimensions. Applying the dimension to a corporation’s point of view shows why different cultural background companies should be culturally aware and how they should be educated on the matter. In the last part of the thesis, I examine intercultural management and its main objectives. I have created an intercultural survey that I have sent out to my colleagues at Morgan Stanley in which I asked them questions related to the topic of diversity. After analysing the respondents’ data, I will draw conclusion on why diversity, inclusion, and equity are important and how they should be performed and practiced on a corporate level. At last, I am taking a look into intersectionality, which explains social categorizations that are underrepresented and unfairly treated. I will also explain why internationalization is important in terms of employment for a global company and why they should consider who they hire in reference to their cultural backgrounds. Finally, I write about culture shock and its effects on a person’s mental state and how repatriation is a serious issue that organizations should take responsibility for and action on. For my analysis, I used both data from books that relate to the topic and articles from internet sources, but mostly my personal university and work notes in order to use relevant data.
