Absztrakt (kivonat)
In my paper, I am focusing on the economic challenges that post-soviet countries had to face after the collapse of the Soviet Union. As an example of such happenings, I am focusing on two countries - Russia and Kazakhstan. I chose this topic based on two distinct reasons which are directly connected to my personal life. The first one is that I am a citizen of Russia who has lived there my whole childhood; however, I have only limited knowledge of the history of the country as well as its economic struggles. These facts led me to the choosing of this topic, and in particular Russia, as one of the examples of a post-soviet country. The second reason is in connection to Kazakhstan. Its close cultural and economic connection to Russia, as well as the presence of its culture in Russia as well, led me to the choosing of Kazakhstan as a second country to analyze the results of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. In the first part of my thesis, I try to explain what Soviet Regime was, how it came into existence as well as what led to its formation. Here I am covering the concepts of Marxism and Marxism-Leninism. I am covering the history of the Soviet Union as it is utterly vital to understand how something was created and how it has functioned before trying to understand what led to the failure of the system. Also, I am briefly covering the economic structure of the Union as well as outlining the economic weaknesses that led to the downfall. The second part of my work is dedicated to both Russia and Kazakhstan in separate chapters. In both instances, I am covering the history of Russia and Kazakhstan from the time of the Russian Empire at the turn of the century to the formation of the USSR. Later in both of the chapters, I am also conducting an analysis of the challenges of post-soviet Russia/Kazakhstan by asking the questions of what happened to the economy after the collapse of the Union as well as what challenges the countries faced as a result of this fall. Both of these chapters were created using different sources in the Russian language as only in this language can be found relevant and the most accurate statistical data from these periods. In the last section of my thesis, I present an overview of my findings regarding the factors that can be characterized as weaknesses that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union.
