Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis examines the sociological background of secondary school choice, with particular focus on the selection of the technical secondary school track, considering Pierre Bourdieu and James Coleman’s theories of capital. The main objective of the research is to explore the extent to which family background, inherited cultural and social capital, and parental habitus influence school choice decisions. The study combines quantitative data from a questionnaire survey of seventy-two participants with a qualitative thematic analysis of four semi-structured interviews. It focuses on parental education, cultural and social capital, and the motivations underlying decisions about further education. The results indicate that, within the examined sample, choosing a technical secondary school is not a forced path but rather a conscious mobility strategy oriented toward security. For students, this track represents a multifunctional educational pathway that provides both the economic security of obtaining a vocational qualification and the opportunity for further education through the secondary school leaving examination.
