Absztrakt (kivonat)
This study explores the factors driving or hindering digital financial services (DFS) adoption in Hungary, an important area as digital finance reshapes consumer behavior and financial inclusion on a global scale. DFS encompass financial solutions delivered via electronic platforms, such as mobile apps and online interfaces, enhancing convenience and operational efficiency. They play a crucial role in promoting financial inclusion by providing cost-effective access to essential financial services for both served and underserved populations. Understanding the dynamics of DFS adoption is crucial for addressing barriers and expanding financial access across diverse demographic groups. Using a mixed-methods approach, this research integrates survey data collected from consumers in Hungary with qualitative insights gathered through semi-structured interviews conducted with Hungarian bank managers, along with findings from an extensive international literature review. This combination provides a comprehensive view of the Hungarian digital finance landscape. Results reveal a generational divide, with younger consumers highly engaged due to DFS convenience, while older users face barriers related to digital literacy and technology access. Perceived security emerges as a critical factor across all demographics, underscoring the need for trust-enhancing measures. Mobile banking apps and digital wallets are popular among retail consumers, whereas corporate clients tend to prefer in-person transactions for complex services. The analysis highlights the importance of user-friendly design, strong security measures, and targeted promotions in promoting DFS adoption. This research presents actionable recommendations for financial institutions, emphasizing the importance of targeted educational initiatives, secure user-friendly designs, and promotional strategies that highlight DFS benefits. By addressing digital literacy gaps and enhancing user experience, banks and fintech firms can broaden adoption and improve inclusivity. Although focused on Hungary, these findings offer valuable insights into the global challenges and opportunities within digital finance, underscoring the potential of DFS to foster financial inclusion.
