Absztrakt (kivonat)
The central topic of my thesis is the examination of the methods used to acquire the German language and the institutional conditions supporting this process in two German nationality kindergartens in Hungary, located in Szombathely and Győr. I extended my research to the town of Oberwart in Burgenland, Austria, where I analyzed the possibilities of acquiring the Hungarian language in light of the presence of the Hungarian minority. My aim was to explore the differences between the two countries regarding the demand for and practices of German and Hungarian language education, and to gain insights that can be utilized in my future professional work. The target group of my study consisted of children of preschool age (2–6 years). During the research, I conducted observations during kindergarten activities and afternoon language programs, carried out a questionnaire survey among parents, and conducted interviews with the institutions’ leaders and educators. My hypotheses were partially confirmed: in Hungary, the feedback from parents and institutional leaders supported my assumptions. In Austria, however, I encountered data collection difficulties due to personal data protection regulations, which limited the extent to which my claims could be verified there. The thesis highlights that economic factors significantly influence the demand for language learning, and that institutional support and methodological approaches play a crucial role in the success of language acquisition.
