Absztrakt (kivonat)
Hungary holds a significant position in the global seed production and trade industry. Nearly all leading seed companies, such as Limagrain, Bayer, Corteva, and Syngenta, have a presence in the country. Some of these firms operate their own processing facilities, while others outsource this work to third-party processors. Most of the processing plants across the country were constructed starting in the late 1950s, with only a few having advanced technology. Their technological levels vary, but they all need to advance with time, making ongoing investments necessary. In contemporary times, automation not only fosters development but also addresses challenges associated with securing human resources. These advancements are particularly critical in geographic regions where worker migration is influenced by various factors. A well-structured investment plan enables plants operating in such an environment to maintain market competitiveness while adhering to increasingly stringent quality standards. By enhancing their performance, these plants can undertake additional workloads and meet client demands within the tight processing cycles characteristic of the sector. One of the crucial aspects of workforce retention is prioritizing employee well-being, which extends beyond merely financial recognition. Investments in individual development can also contribute to achieving these objectives while enhancing overall performance. Consider the potential benefits of eliminating a prospective third shift and discontinuing continuous weekend work on employee morale and satisfaction. The objective of this thesis is to analyze the impact of an automation investment within a production plant, considering both performance metrics and human resource implications. The analysis will focus on the potential return on investment specifically in terms of wage costs and will examine the effects on the scheduling and number of shifts.
