Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis embarks on an extensive investigation into the role of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) as a foundational material in structural and building applications, focusing particularly on leveraging the capabilities of indigenous Hungarian hardwoods like grey, white, and hybrid I-214 Poplar and Turkey oak. LVL, a product made from thin wood veneers glued together, has great potential for improving sustainable construction techniques. Through a thorough combination of empirical investigation and theoretical analysis, our objective is to unravel the intricate interplay between the physical and mechanical characteristics of LVL obtained from various hardwood species. By pitting our findings against recognised standards in structural material science, we attempt to discover the particular advantages and problems associated with using LVL across a range of building scenarios. Moreover, by applying Finite Element Analysis (FEA), we seek to recreate models of our samples. Integrating actual data into these models, our purpose is to construct prediction frameworks that give significant insights into the behavior of various LVL setups. We want to not only predict the mechanical and physical properties of various LVL samples, but also to understand the underlying mechanisms that influence their performance. This combination of empirical observation and theoretical modelling not only broadens our understanding, but also lays the framework for informed building design and material selection. In summary, this research symbolises a scholarly attempt to bridge the gap between actual observations and theoretical frameworks in LVL use. By doing so, we want to further our understanding of LVL's potential as a high value product.
