Absztrakt (kivonat)

This study was conducted in order to illustrate the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects it had on the labour markets across various European regions using a quantitative approach. The quantitative approach entails a trend analysis done on data provided by Eurostat regarding the employment rates across these regions (of interest) for the time period between 2017 and 2022. Even though the topic of this research is quite actual, most of the research on it was done over the course of the previous three years. Currently, the world and the economy are on the way to recovery, which makes it the perfect time to make an overview of the happenings and the aftermath. The research brings a coherent conclusion on the events and impact of COVID-19 on the labour markets across Europe. Analysing Eurostat’s' unemployment rates data differentiated by age, gender, and economical sector enabled more precise and clear results and helped in forming clear connections on the effect of the pandemic on different segments of the labour markets. While minor distinctions can be made on the topic of increased gender inequality, the research shows that those regarding age discrimination and sectoral differences are more significant. In order to have a clearer insight into the problematics of job loss during COVID, analysed data was observed in connection with the pre-COVID labour market structure of examined countries, as well as the legislative conditions in specified regions and countries. Moreover, the study raises questions for further research and improvement of labour market disparities.
